The successive phases of the impact of a drop of water in a puddle are represented in combined horizontal and vertical strips, a metonymy between space and time that constitutes the grammar of the sculpture. In the center, a hollow shape appears similar to a quartered fruit. The outline of the curves, the result of several years of geometric and empirical research, would correspond to equations of the fluid dynamics of water.
Due to its size and its construction around the void, Gastrula can only be
partially apprehended. From the outside, we can only see one face or two at
most, and the interior hollow appears to be a bubble by optical effect. From
the front, we are physically aspirated inwards. In the sculpture, the walls
disappear in favor of the emptiness felt.
A combination of dualities whose simultaneous experience is impossible.
