Black Ear

Presented during the Arts & Sciences exhibitions, Digital Pole of Brest-Iroise and Oceanopolis, Brest, France; 2017 and 2019.

Black laminated wood, engine and unbalanced weight. Dimensions: 300 X 180 cm.

The laminated wood plate is a mirror. It produces undulations with organic and modulated rhythms, thanks to the small motor placed on its back.
Approaching the black face we perceive our reflection distorted both by the curvature and by the vibrations of the plate produced by the motor.
The sensation of not being able to delimit the physical surface of the face, due to volumetric mirror effects, leads to refer more to one's body, to one's proprioception rather than just to the sense of sight.

The sculpture highlights the domination of the sense of sight to the detriment of the other senses, and the conditioning that this sense operates in the perception of our environment and ourselves. Its intermittent and organic vibrations, its color, give it a mysterious and elusive character.
