Landscapes
Some of the photos taken during the river's journey are reproduced in charcoal
drawings of about 89 x 66 cm.
These drawings are presented in diptych: one shows the river, the other
the surrounding area. They represent emblematic, recurring subjects in relation
to the state of the biotope as well as the presence of pollutants and/or
alterations of the landscape. Around 6 diptychs will be created in chronological
order from source to estuary.
Charcoal is used for its visual and organic properties; the impression of relief produced by the different layers gives a haptic character to the drawings, its natural origin makes it a mediator of the state of the place evoking droughts and fires which are beginning to rage in this territory.
The long time taken to create them suggests a contemplative approach to the landscape.
Counterpoints to digital images used in both art and science, these drawings
and their haptic presence also raise the question of the how, of the medium
and the attitude upstream of any production.
In technique and intention, they are similar to my practice of sculpture.
First three diptychs completed or in progress:
The source and surrounding area, the Aulne at Plourac'h and the Goasq quarry,
Lake Saint-Michel (sea of clouds and dam on the Ellez river)

On the river
This film follows the principle of immersive
films made on the Trieux and the Gouët rivers: immersion in the
river traveled on foot or by canoe, with images obtained from the surface
of the water or submerged, plus images taken from the banks and nearby.
It is presented in the form of a diptych : on the left, the views from the
river and on the right, the views from the bank and its surroundings, most
of the time. This composition makes it possible to account for the multiple
interactions between the river and its territory. Images sometimes poetic,
sometimes crude, which show what is.
Certain shots are linked to the sites drawn and/or apprehended by scientists
in their studies.
The film as a whole will evolve based on the images taken during 2023 and
2024 and the rest of the project. The extract presented here is therefore
not a definitive version either in its form or in its content.

river residues synthesized at the LEMAR.
